MISSION STATEMENT

The Media Center program provides
access to information and ideas for all
users.

It affords opportunities for students to
appreciate literature and the cultural arts,
to learn creative thinking skills, to become
critical seekers of information and ideas,
and to use instructional technology
effectively so they may become
independent life-long learners and decision makers.

GOAL

The goal of the Library Media Program
is to support, complement, and expand the
instructional program of the school and
to provide open access to all members of
the school community.

Library Media Services and resources
permeate the entire curriculum and strive
to meet the needs of all readers.
The Media Center provides a learning
environment which promotes inquiry, cre-
ativity, self-discovery, and a communication
of ideas through print, and non-print media.

CHECKOUT POLICY:

Students may check out up to three books at a time
Books may be checked out for a two week period
Students may extend the use of books by simply renewing them at the front desk for an additional two weeks
Fines for overdue books are five cents a day, per book

GENERAL OPERATING PROCEDURES:

In order to maintain inventory control and to provide a more productive learning environment for our students, the following procedures should be observed:

NO FOOD, DRINKS OR GUM IN THE MEDIA CENTER.
Return books to circulation desk.
Absolutely no talking in the "Quiet Zone".

Do not re-shelve books:place books in designated areas so that Media Center personnel may re-shelve them.
Do not exit using the back door.
After using the Media Center, students should leave the center looking neat and ready for the next class.

FICTION

Fiction books are arranged alphabetically by the
author's last name.
Fiction sections are separated by types of stories
(i.e. romance, mystery, etc.)
Story types are identified by color coded tabs
Paperbacks are located on racks, arranged by type
of book

NON-FICTION

Non-fiction books are numbered sequentially.
Similar books are shelved together.
A description of what the organization numbers represent is available from Media Center personnel, upon request.

Biographies
Encyclopedias
Atlases
Almanacs

MAGAZINES/NEWSPAPERS

A variety of magazines and newspapers are available for your use.
You must complete a magazine slip for the more popular magazines.
Previous issues may be borrowed by completing a magazine slip.
Magazines may be checked out on a limited basis.


COMPUTERS/PRINTERS/SCANNERS

The Media Center computers are available to students and staff for academic purposes.

Internet access allows you to explore and locate a variety of subjects

Library computers share a limited amount of printers and scanners. Please be considerate of others.

Individual computer use may be limited due to high demand.

Students using computers inappropriately may lose computer use privileges.

In order to maintain the proper library environment, one must be respectful of the needs of others to concentrate and focus on desired information/task. Students that disrupt this learning environment may be removed from the Media Center.
