Mr. Ricardo Rodriguez |
Killian Cougars, It is with great pride and pleasure that I welcome all Miami Killian Senior High School students to the 2010-2011 school year! A special welcome back to the class of 2011, our seniors, who will provide leadership to our underclassmen. Your leadership will be the foundation of our success as a school; “Killian succeeds because the Cougars lead.” This year, we take pride in welcoming our incoming freshmen, the class of 2014. You are the leaders of tomorrow! Now that you are in high school, much will be expected of you. I urge you to become actively involved in school by becoming a member of the various interest clubs and school organizations. You are also encouraged to try-out for one of our many high school athletic programs. We offer many opportunities for students to become involved in school. Feel free to visit our Activities Office and our Athletic Director to find out more! We look forward to a year full of challenges and rewards for all of us. You will be challenged to put forth your maximum effort regardless of your ability, and you will be rewarded for your hard work with an outstanding educational experience. Our school vision is to provide an educational environment in which students can “Aspire and Act to Achieve.” Through this vision, we recognize that it is not enough to desire to, or imagine changes. We must make proactive plans and take the necessary steps to achieve goals, and make dreams a reality. We are proud to announce that through our “Killian Cares Project,” students donated 1500 care packages for our troops in Afghanistan. The American Red Cross informed us that this was the single largest donation of its kind. Additionally, Killian donated over 12,500 water bottles to earthquake victims in Haiti. We are truly a school “with heart.” The College Board has recognized Miami Killian Senior for being the number one high school in the nation for having the largest number of Hispanic students with a passing score on the Advanced Placement Human Geography test and the Advance Placement Environmental Science Test. Our rigor and relevance is second to none! We congratulate all of the students and teachers for their hard work and dedication last year. This year, as in the past, students will be required to pass the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test to meet high school graduation requirements. Students, who score at FCAT Reading Levels 1 or 2, will be placed in an Intensive Reading Class, as mandated by the state and our school district. All eleventh graders will be required to take a science class in preparation for the Science FCAT. Miami Killian Senior High school is a mandatory Uniform School, and all students are required to wear a Killian uniform. Alternate uniforms are permitted, provided that they are approved in advance. Your school club or organization faculty sponsor, can submit an alternate uniform to the Activities Office for approval. You can review all of our school uniform guidelines at our web site. Please look under the Administrative Polices Kiosk for more details. We are proud of Miami Killian’s Administrative Staff; they are a vital part of our faculty. Our Assistant Principal for Curriculum is Ms. Ruiz. Administrative Assistant Principals who handle school operations are Mr. Hidalgo , Ms. Luis and Dr. Robinson. The entire Miami Killian Senior High School faculty and staff stands ready to make certain that you have the opportunities and the tools you need to succeed during your high school career. Have that Cougar Day! |
